Imagine venturing on a flight to the South Pacific via Air Jamaica with a Bible and some soothing reggae to pass your time--now you’re in the mood for ‘Imisi, a new group that will take you to the next plateau in gospel reggae. In Tonga (an island near Samoa and Fiji), ‘Imisi (pronounced ee-mee-see), means “Image,” for man was created in the “image of God” (Gen 1:27). Made in His image, people of all cultures and languages reflect something of His likeness and through the powerful music of this diverse Polynesian group we have been given a unique vision of the Father.

‘Imisi is headed by brothers David (Tevita Ka) Fohe, Jubilee (Siupeli Koula) Fohe and Joel Roberts. On “Visions of the Father,” David’s sweet textured voice eloquently contrasts Jubilee’s smooth nasal tone and clever singjay stylings. ‘Imisi has been compared to everyone from Luciano to Gregory Isaacs, and even labeled “The Reggae Katinas.” This labor of love took two years to record and was produced by the top players in the secular and gospel reggae markets; Quino from Big Mountain (the best selling U.S. reggae group) and Mark Mohr from Christafari (the best selling gospel reggae group). In addition to the vibrant vocals and lush harmonies, the band lays down some top-notch melodies and hypnotic beats. These addictive cuts also contain outstanding musical performances by some of Jamaica's finest reggae musicians mixed in a dubwise fashion. The Beat Magazine said that ‘Imisi’s music “sits smoothly in the lovers rock mode praising Jesus Christ as the most high.” Their heart-felt lyrics of praise sung smoothly over rolling bass-lines and infectious beats are the perfect recipe to satisfy any appetite--Sugar couldn’t add any sweetness to these tasty tunes.

With their strong introduction on “Visions of the Father,” (which initially appeared as a standout track on Christafari’s Gravity album), ‘Imisi has already established themselves as the voice of island music and the future of gospel reggae. Fusing an unshakably God-centered message with the full intricacies of bona-fide Jamaican reggae, these Pacific Islanders from the Kingdom of Tonga are in great contrast with the message of today’s top secular reggae acts. Yet, given their island heritage and the Christian nation that they hail from, this profound gospel group is earning respect in the least likely of places with their clean production, solid vocals and uncompromising faith. 'Imisi continues to turn heads in the Reggae community having performed at several of the Nations largest Reggae Festivals and sharing the stage with Artists such as Sean Paul, Lucky Dube, Morgan Heritage, Sly & Robbie, and Toots and the Mytals just to name a few.

And as believers in Christ from the Christian island of Tonga, we strive daily to become more like our Savior Jesus Christ. Since reggae is the heartbeat of our nation and has proven to be an effective tool in uniting first and third world nations, we have set out to use this burgeoning genre to fulfill the great commission. We desire to proclaim the life, love and hope that one can only find through faith in Christ to every nation through this infectious genre. Furthermore, Since our inception as the worship team for our father’s church, praise and worship has always been a vital part of our ministry. In addition to evangelism, we strongly desire to build up, edify, and encourage Christians in their daily walk with God.
